If the work is the first edition published, you do not need to enter an edition descriptor.
Usually, editions are prepared for publication by someone other than the author; the names of editors and translators should be included in your record to accurately describe the edition you are using in your research. Edition descriptions are usually numbers (2d ed., 4th ed.), though years are sometimes used, as well as phrases (revised edition, Cambridge Student Edition, etc.) and they are essential to pointing your readers to the text of the source work you are using. Different editions often number pages differently, and if you do not include the edition description, it is quite possible that readers will not be able to locate the material you are citing. When the edition is a numbered edition, include the number of the edition in the Edition field. Names of editors and translators should be entered in the appropriate fields.
