The Short List View displays an index of your datafile, including record numbers, Author names, Year of publication, and the first few characters of the title, or, for note records, the first line of the excerpt.

To display the Short List View, click the Short List View button on the Toolbar, or click View, Short List View.

Example
The Short List View for the tutorial datafile shipped with Citation displays a "shortened" reference to each record in the datafile:

Cite
Inserts a Cite key for the highlighted record to the cursor position in your word processing document.

Goto
Displays the highlighted entry in the Short List View as the current record.

Tag Marked
Tags all the marked records in the Short List View.

Untag Marked
Untags all the marked records in the Short List View.

To mark records in the Short List View
Hold down the Control key, and click on the entry in the Short List View.

To sort the Short List View by a different column
Right click in the column, and select Sort Ascending or Sort Descending.

To hide a column in the Short List View
Position the mouse over the blank space between the columns until a vertical drag bar displays. Move the vertical drag bar to reposition or hide the columns.

To redefine the contents of the Short List View
The contents of the Short List View is defined by a custom format file in the Citation folder, shortlist.cf. You can edit this custom format file, using the Custom Format Editor to display a different set of fields in the Short List View.
